Norcold Marine Refrigerator Repair
Works on 12V but Not on 120V (Secop 101N0510 Replacement)
4/24/20261 min read

We completed a marine refrigerator repair in Tampa Bay where a Norcold unit was working on 12V (DC) but not running on 120V (AC).
The customer reported that the fridge operated normally on battery power, but when switching to shore power, the system would not start.
🔌 Symptom: Fridge Works on 12V but Not on 120V
At inspection, we confirmed:
Normal operation on 12V DC
No response when connected to 120V AC
Compressor not starting on shore power
👉 This is a common issue in dual-voltage marine refrigeration systems.
🔍 Problem: Faulty Secop 101N0510 Control Module
Diagnostics revealed failure of the Secop 101N0510 control module, which manages compressor operation and voltage switching.
This module is responsible for:
Converting AC to DC power for the compressor
Controlling compressor startup
Protecting the system from voltage issues
⚠️ Why it fails:
Voltage fluctuations from shore power
Heat buildup in confined spaces
Age-related electronic failure
👉 When this module fails, the system may still run on DC but not on AC.
🔧 Repair Performed
We completed a full diagnostic and repair:
✔ Confirmed DC operation and AC failure
✔ Diagnosed faulty Secop 101N0510 module
✔ Replaced the control module
✔ Checked power supply and wiring
✔ Verified operation on both 12V and 120V
After replacement, the refrigerator worked normally on both power sources.
⚠️ Why This Issue Is Important
This problem is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed.
Many assume:
Compressor failure
Power supply issue
👉 In reality, the issue is often the control module.
Ignoring the problem can lead to:
Loss of cooling on shore power
Battery overuse
Increased system wear
🧠 Preventive Tip
To avoid similar issues:
✔ Ensure stable shore power supply
✔ Check inverter and AC wiring
✔ Maintain proper ventilation around the unit
✔ Inspect control modules periodically
