Recently we completed a repair on a 16,000 BTU Dometic marine split air conditioning system in Clearwater, Florida. The customer reported poor cooling performance along with an LPH fault error appearing on the control display.
After checking system operation and refrigerant pressures, we found that the system was low on refrigerant due to a leak at the Schrader service valve. Refrigerant leaks like this are common on marine HVAC systems because of vibration, salt air exposure, and long-term wear.
The faulty Schrader valve was replaced using a specialized service tool, allowing the repair to be completed safely and efficiently. After the repair, the system was pressure tested, evacuated to a deep vacuum, and recharged to proper operating specifications.
Once the refrigerant charge was restored, the Dometic split system returned to normal operation, cooling performance improved significantly, and the LPH error was cleared.
Common signs of refrigerant leaks on marine AC systems include:
Weak cooling performance
Long compressor run times
Partial evaporator icing
Low suction pressure
LPH fault errors
System struggling during hot Florida weather
We service and repair Dometic marine air conditioning systems throughout Clearwater, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and surrounding Tampa Bay marinas.
